400mph on two wheels!

Not for the faint hearted amongst us but Gabriel Uttley, an engineering lecturer from Yorkshire, is certainly not faint of heart. Gabriel aims to recapture the world land speed record for motorcyles and bring it back to Britain for the first time since 1937 with his Angelic Bulldog project.
Currently standing at 367 mph to the credit of an American team, Angelic Bulldog project's realistic aim is to take the record speed to 400 mph or more.
The bike is an entirely British effort and will utilise a British purpose built Dantec square 8 engine based on two Honda Blackbird derived four cylinder blocks on a common crankcase. This 2.3 litre turbocharged unit will produce upwards of 700 bhp, driving through a bespoke six speed transmission (120 mph in first gear) to propel the 6.5m long cigar shaped projectile through the measured mile. Imagine six miles from rest in 95 seconds and a top speed that represents 9 seconds per mile!
Silverstone Classic is pleased to lend its support to Gabriel Uttley and his Angelic Bulldog team and wish him well in his effort to bring the prestigeous world land speed record for motorcycles back to Britain after so many years.
You can find out more about Angelic Bulldog, and offer your support at www.angelicbulldog.org.uk or better still come along and chat to Gabriel and his team at Silverstone Classic 2010, you'll find them on the Copse runway next to the classic racing bikes paddock.
