‘Goody Two Shoes’, ‘Stand & Deliver’, ‘Prince Charming’, ‘Ant Rap’, ‘Friend or Foe’ and much more great music from his sell-out albums.
Sometimes it’s difficult to pinpoint exact turning points in the history of an artist or band, but the 16th October 1980 is one such precise date for Adam Ant, when he was thrust upon the general public with his first national television performance on the BBC’s flagship music programme; Top of the Pops. The show launched Adam’s face, along with his relatively new band, into millions of living rooms in the UK and their ferocious but fresh new sound enabled the direction of British music to take a new turn.
For almost 2 years Adam and the Ants dominated the charts with their singles and subsequent albums, especially Kings of the Wild Frontier, the band’s second, which charted for 66 consecutive weeks, 12 of which were in the number 1 position.
In 2010 and 2011, Adam Ant and the new band line up; Adam Ant and the Good, The Mad & The Lovely Posse embarked on the successful and extensive Blueblack Hussar Tour, playing all around the UK from Cardiff to Dundee and Liverpool to Brighton.
These sell out dates were quickly followed by The Seaside Tour which ran along the south coast of England, keeping the band up to speed before playing at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in Hyde Park supporting Rod Stewart.
Adam Ant has been a prolific song writer, actor and director. We are very pleased that his journey continues at the Silverstone Classic Festival.
We are very pleased to welcome Mike + The Mechanics to the Silverstone Classic on Friday 20th July, 2011.
Mike Rutherford, a founding member of one of the most successful groups of all time, Genesis, formed Mike + The Mechanics in 1984 and created a side project that would go on to sell over 10 million records worldwide. The band originally started with vocalists Paul Carrack and Paul Young (formerly of Sad Café).
The band’s debut record in 1985 titled “Mike + The Mechanics” produced two Top Ten hit singles, Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground) and All I Need Is a Miracle. Both tracks went top 40 in America. In the UK, the bands debut single Silent Running shot to number 6.
Since then albums as “Word of Mouth” and “Beggar on a Beach of Gold” continuing to cement the band’s reputations as one of the most respected contemporary melodic rock bands.
Joining Mike in the latest band line-up and both co-writing and taking to the mic on the new album is one of the most successful UK R& B acts of the 90’s Andrew Roachford. Breaking into the UK music scene in his early twenties, Roachford stormed the UK Charts with the anthem ‘Cuddly Toy’ and became Columbia’s biggest selling UK act for ten years. Tunes like ‘Only To Be With You’ to ‘The Way That I Feel’ became international hits and gave Roachford the opportunity to tour the world and hone his talent – becoming the truly great entertainer that he is today.
Joining Roachford and sharing the vocal duties is Tim Howar, a Canadian actor/singer who came to the UK 10 years ago to start a band in the country where his icons were born. He formed and toured with Vantramp supporting the likes of Rod Stewart, Paulo Nutini, the Sugarbabes and Newton Faulkner.
In addition to the concerts a variety of musical ensembles featured throughout the circuit infield area made up of classic car displays, trade stands, off track demonstrations and plenty of family entertainment.
