Young Driver

The chance for young drivers to get behind the wheel

After its sell-out popularity in 2018, Young Driver was back between 9am and 6pm on each day of The Classic in 2019.

It was a brilliant opportunity for children aged 10 and over (but under 17) to get behind the wheel of a car, courtesy of Young Driver – the UK’s largest provider of under 17 driving lessons.

While the majority of the attractions at the Classic are provided free, there was a charge of £5 for the 10-minute Young Driver taster sessions which needed to be booked and paid for with Young Driver at their big red bus located in the Drive Live area in Blue Zone 6… a time slot was then allocated to save on queuing. Young Driver was hugely popular and sold-out in record time each morning.

Young drivers were being taught to drive in a brand new dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsa with one of the Young Driver team. There are over 450 highly qualified ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors) across the UK in the Young Driver centres, all of whom have been DBS checked and individually trained in how to adapt the DVSA curriculum to be appropriate for younger children.

During their time in the car, young drivers learnt a whole host of skills including starting, driving, braking, corner control, changing gear, stopping and even reversing. In addition to being of an eligible age, young drivers also needed to be 1.42m or taller.
