Streetcar Shootout

Silverstone Classic 2018 had the biggest and wildest line-up of vehicles ever seen at the event taking part in the Streetcar Shootout! The demo recreation of a drag strip race has become a firm favourite at the Classic and it runs twice a day on the old section of the circuit from Abbey to Bridge corner in Yellow Zone 14.

In 2018, the ever popular Taz Racing returned with a full line-up of amazing vehicles, including multi Shootout winner “Boss Taz” (Chris Skinner) back out with a full rebuild following some damage to the big V8 at the very last meeting of 2017. Also out was “Scoff Taz” (Adam Skinner), one of the youngest members from Taz Racing who suffered a broken rear linkage whilst at full tilt last year. Thankfully all the safety equipment did its job and after long winter nights in the garage, the Fiat now sports a new body, repaired rear end and a fully rebuilt Toyota 2-litre turbo engine producing an amazing 420 HP. It had already run a 10.8 second quarter mile with a terminal speed of 127mph this season!!

New for 2018's demonstration were a brace of outrageous Ford Pops hailing from the Outlaw Anglia Racing series. First was Gary Hill in his immaculate candy green Pop running a V8 Chevy with over 600 HP on tap, plus the Nitros and Gary Bird with his Supercharged 357 cubic inch Chevy-powered 54 Pop running on Methanol and tripping the quarter mile lights at 9.6 seconds at a speed of 130mph. There was also Wayne Allman's VW Splitscreen pick-up Dragster built by Wayne himself at his workshop. It's a chrome Moly chassis, supercharged 526 cubic inch (8.6 litre), with Keith Black engine running on Alky connected to a 3 speed Lenco gearbox. The best 1/4 mile time clocked is 7.1 seconds at 196mph, producing over 2,000 horse power!

The outrageous 1936 Half Ton Truck belonging to Justin Woolner also joined for the first time this year. The Rat Rod has an 8” Roof Chop air ride suspension on the rear and a Monster Supercharged 7.7 litre V8 engine with 810 HP on tap. It runs 9 second quarters and is even street legal and driven everywhere.

As far from the Rat Rod as you could possibly get is Andy Crocketts'  beautiful 1941 Willys Americar. An all-original with steel body, custom chassis and suspension, pure wool carpets... and the 18 ½” rear tyres aren’t just for show! The Blown injected Big Block Chevy ( also known as a Rat Motor) has a very tasty 700 HP on tap too.

The line-up for 2018's Streetcar Shootout was simply outstanding, and with over 22,000 of Horse Power out on the track, this year's display was be bigger and better than ever before. Not only that, but while the cars were cooling down,  the Rock n Roll Blues duo “Retroville” provided live music!
