This year's Silverstone Classic saw a star-studded line-up of celebrity drivers taking to the track for the Celebrity Challenge Trophy Race to race flat-out in a huge grid of Austin A30s and A35s (well-known cars in classic racing circles, introduced a few years ago by the Historic Racing Drivers Club as a cost-effective route into historic racing).
The celebrities were split into five teams representing their professions as follows:
- Bike Legends
- Going for Gold
- Screen Stars
- Rocking & Racing
- SKY Sports Stars
The race programme for the grid over the weekend of the Classic was split into two parts; owners of the cars qualified on Friday and raced on Sunday while the celebrities, together with their team captains, were in action on Saturday.
All celebrities without an MSA race licence were put through their paces at the Silverstone Motorsport Academy, one of the country’s leading Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS).
